Remembrance Sunday By Deirdre Mahony , Region 2 Two Region 2 members, Neill McRoberts and Deirdre Mahony, had the huge honour and privilege to be selected to represent PSNI as part of the Uniformed Civilian Services Contingent at the Cenotaph, in London at this year’s National Act of Remembrance, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two. A huge thank you is also due to the MET IPA, most especially Colin Shead, Eddie Rooney and Alex Archer who organised and welcomed both members to events during such a very special weekend in London.

Tribute Paid to Fallen Officers By Olly Button Four officers from the Norfolk Constabulary Ceremonial Association and their lead chaplain, Rev Ian Byrne, attended the HQ of the National Crime Agency, in London to take part in a service to commemorate Interpol International Day of Remembrance for Fallen Police Officers. All are IPA members and it was the first time ever that the UK has marked this day! As well as Ian, those taking part were: Olly Button, Jake Minns, and Will Burrell, from Norfolk Constabulary and Paul Odd, representing Lincolnshire Police.

The service recognised the sacrifice of police who have died in the line of duty. It involved the dipping of the Union flag, the laying of an Interpol blue wreath and a two-minute silence, signified by a traditional police whistle. Olly Button commented: “In joining these international commemorations, I hope we played a small part in highlighting the strength of our global law enforcement networks. “Thousands of police officers worldwide lose their lives each year, in the course of their duties, underscoring the risks faced daily by law enforcement personnel. Led by Interpol, to mark this year’s commemoration ceremonies took place across the world, flags were flown at half mast, there were moments of silence and many police buildings were illuminated in blue.”
