IPA Thames Valley Branch AGM Lunch Mike Vince , MBE – Branch Treasurer
he was delighted to take on this role and do his best to further the aims and benefits of the IPA to the Thames Valley officers and support staff. Our Chairman David Marchant presented a 30 years IPA Service certificate to Garry Deacon who had travelled with his wife Mandy from the Coventry area to join us. Election of the Branch officers saw our outgoing Chairman David Marchant handing over to Kevin Goodman. Kevin handed over a bottle of a favourite tipple to a delighted David. The Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer remain as per the last year. A raffle was held raising £200 which was presented to the Mess Staff to hand over to the Felix Fund – the Bomb Disposal Charity which supports those who risk their lives to prevent explosions that could endanger the lives of the
general public across the UK and beyond. The intense pressure they are under, the fund is there to help this unique group of men and women.
A most convivial lunch held at the Vauxhall Barracks, Didcot, Oxfordshire saw 56 persons sitting down to an excellent subsidised carvery lunch choice of roast lamb or roast chicken. Members were pleased with the low bar prices compared with other commercial premises that we have used. Pauline and John Osborne, our Social Secretaries organised this event with the help of the Mess Manager. Starting with a Loyal Toast to Her Majesty the Queen, an excellent and amusing grace was said by our guest the Reverend Clark. Our guest of honour was John Campbell, Deputy Chief Constable Thames Valley Police, spoke a few words welcoming our request for him to become our Patron and sponsor. John said that

Attenborough walk On Sunday 14th May 2017, having finished nights and with 3 1/2 hours sleep I joined our members for a good 3 miles walk along Attenborough Nature Reserve. After a beautiful walk catching up with the old days... we sat down and enjoyed a great lunch from the golden ages menu ...yum yum! It was Ian Spence and his wife Diane first social walk and they hope to join us at future events. Gurmit Kaur, Notts Branch

George McCarroll Life Member George McCarroll passed away on the 3rd March following a short illness. George served in the Royal Marines leaving in 1970 after serving for 22 years and was a Colour Sergeant upon his retirement. Within two weeks he joined the Metropolitan Police retiring in 1990 having served for 20 years, his service being mainly in the Brixton area. He was Secretary of 6(4) sub-region of the IPA from 1976 until 1980 when he continued as Secretary in the newly formed 11 Region until 1982 when he stepped down but continued as Regional Supplies Officer until 2000. He will be sadly missed. Adrian Boniface
