Birmingham friendship weekend

Region 5 – Birmingham are hosting their friendship weekend on the 10th-12th May and it’s shaping up to be a great weekend. One thing we haven’t announced as yet is that we have struck a deal with Birmingham based company ACME, who have been making the ACME Metropolitan Whistle for over 140 years. They’ve agreed to produce a very limited number of IPA engraved ACME Whistles which we will be handing out to the first 20 people who book up for our weekend.

A Green Man and a Dog Man Dave Stamp , Chairman, Sussex Branch Sussex branch held their annual Christmas Lunch at the Green Man in Ringmer, East Sussex. During the event the Vice-Chair of 11 Region, Donna Powell, presented John Paice with a certificate from the IPA in recognition of his impressive sixty years of continuous membership. John’s wife Babette was also presented with a bouquet by Donna. John joined the Metropolitan Police on 6th February, 1954. He soon became an IPA member on 2nd November 1958. He became a dog handler, getting his first police dog, Rocky IV, on 9th September 1957. Through his career John trained and handled five police dogs. John is still an active branch member and used to run the popular “Mets in Sussex” dinners. He also occasionally wins the “200 Club Branch Lottery”, much to my annoyance.

Mick’s Golden Year Mick Murphy has completed 50 years membership of Kent Branch and Chairman Mick Abbott presented him with his certificate. Mick Murphy is a previous Chairman of Kent Branch, and although latterly he has mobility problems, he remains as enthusiastic as ever. Mick Abbott is also Social Secretary of Kent Branch and said, “Mick (Murphy) is ‘old school’, in that he always acknowledges event circulations, although is unable to attend them these days because he has difficulty getting out and about. Despite this, he is surrounded by retired colleagues, who collect him when necessary. When I presented him with his certificate he was still the ‘jovial Mick’ he always was”.

RIP Harold Derry IPA Leicestershire are saddened to announce the death of one of our long standing life members. Harold Derry, who passed away in August 2018, was the holder of a Certificate for 50 years membership of the IPA. He joined the Association in 1968. Bob Gunnell, Secretary, Leicestershire Branch.
