IPA News

Looking for inspiration Pat Bailey , Norfolk and Suffolk Branch The branch held its annual Christmas lunch at Park Farm Hotel and Spa in Hethersett near Norwich. Once again, this event was eagerly awaited and well attended, with 21 members and guests spending a convivial afternoon together over a long lunch and a few drinks. The branch has had a reasonably quiet year, with just a few events, mainly Sunday lunches around our area. We hope to raise our profile this year and have already begun planning our next year’s program. Our membership roll shows that there are a number of younger and still serving members within our area, but there seems a reluctance on their part to get involved. We hope to inspire them to embrace some of the benefits the IPA can provide, such as the seminars at Gimborn or some of the bursaries that are available for travel and exchanges. So if you are a serving IPA member and are reading this in Norfolk or Suffolk area; get in touch. It can help your career development, especially as force funding does not stretch to such luxuries anymore.

Four Seasons in One Day Bob Lea , Staffordshire Branch Twenty seven members and partners along with sixteen guests recently took a five day break in Eastbourne. They braved storm Gareth, experiencing; sun, strong winds and rain during their stay. On Saturday night they were joined at the hotel by Margaret & Tom Hughes and Sue & Nigel Golds from Sussex Branch, who are known to some of our members through the Caravan Section. On Sunday, David Stamp (Chair of Sussex Branch) and his wife Caryl met Bob & Mary Lea (Sec and treasurer of Staffs and also organiser of the visit) in Brighton They were given a very informative and entertaining tour of the Royal Pavilion. Good use was made of their bus passes as most guests visited Brighton, Hasting, Lewes and Bexhill on sea during their stay.

Letter to the editor Vivienne Shimmin , Life Member - Liverpool and Merseyside Branch Dear Sir, My late husband and I have been IPA members of various branches of the association for many years. When Bert retired from the Police, he got a very good job with the Babycham people. We had to move to Leicestershire because that was the area he had to cover.

Replying to Vivienne Dear Vivien Thank you for your letter and congratulations on such a long and fruitful membership of the IPA. Your luck in competitions certainly exceeds mine. I rarely win anything. All of us at Police World hope you continue enjoying your membership for many years to come. Neil Hallam Editor

I never realised how far up north was until the move. Our main hobby was doing competitions. My first big win was to go to the USA to see the Apollo take off 1969. On one holiday in Scotland, it rained heavily all the time we were there. We were having a drink at a pub we filled in some beer mats and had to guess how many deer were on the page. Coming home from work one Christmas Eve, on the doorstep were 2 crates of bottles of whisky. We were in the IPA branch of Rouen, France and met Arthur Troop quite often while we were there. I am in the Southport branch now. I shall be 90 in March but hope to keep on going. Yours, Vivienne
