We met near the Synge and Byrne Cafe in the forest park where more people joined us, a total of 24 people. We split into two groups with the majority deciding to go for the summit. The walk took us up through the forest park via Fiddler’s Green, which offered a welcome stop en route to the Cloughmore Stone up a steep path through the trees. According to local folklore, the Big Stone was thrown across Carlingford Lough by Finn McCool during a fight with a giant rival. Beyond the Cloughmore Stone we walked through some more forest, to the trail that took us to the summit. The trail has been well built and maintained and was a pleasant surprise underfoot as it really was easy to walk on and simple in terms of navigation. The views from the summit were spectacular and a good lunch break was had. We followed a route down through the northern part of the forest. This was slightly longer than the way up but was gentle in gradient and being high up allowed for views over the country for longer. Upon arrival back at the cafe we met the other bunch of walkers who had also been up to the Fiddler’s Green before a wander round the Fairy Glen. It was rather warm by that time in the afternoon and several of the group decided to cool their feet in the river. We had the evening meal in a pub in the village where some serious refuelling was done. The staff had a private room for us and even a welcome sign! The craic continued on, and a great time was had by all.

75 th Anniversary Blue Walk From Chris Morgan , Secretary Lincolnshire Branch IPA: On Saturday 17th May, the Lincolnshire Branch IPA - the home of the IPA - held a Blue Walk to celebrate the 75th Anniversary. A very successful event, with a brilliant tour guide , we walked the charming cobbled streets of the uphill area of Lincoln, Bailgate and Steephill, heard fascinating stories about the Romans, Normans and Medieval merchants, and visited key landmarks including Lincoln Cathedral, and the Jews House. A picnic lunch was then available in the Castle grounds for those who wanted to stay. The weather was good to us and a very enjoyable couple of hours for all who attended.
