Motorcycle SIG Season Opening Weekend at Andover By Sally McMillan On Friday 25th April the Motorcycle Special Interest Group met for the opening get together of the season at the Premier Inn, Andover. There were five members and four bikes, not our normal numbers but for one reason or another some members had to drop out. Still, what the weekend lacked in numbers it made up for in quality!

Light refreshment (alcohol-free for the riders obviously)
O n Saturday madam sat nav assisted by Stuart McMillan lead us on a lovely ride to Corfe Castle. The roads were beautiful, the scenery lovely and the route included a short ferry ride from Sandbanks, Poole to Studland peninsula on the Isle of Purbeck. Just to make us feel that we really were on holiday. The ferry was followed by a short ride to Corfe village and a stiff climb up to the ruins of Corfe Castle. This is a National Trust property so no cost was incurred. It is well worth a visit. We were treated to a steam train in the valley, which we followed with a cream tea in the National Trust tea room. A roundabout route back to the hotel took us along the B3081 which had some fabulous views. We ate back at the hotel and then had a good night’s sleep.
Sunday morning saw Stuart and Tina Webb leading our little group to Sammy Miller’s motorcycle museum New Milton, Hampshire. The Royal Enfield Club were holding an event here and there were so many bikes both attending their event and in the bike park that we never made it into the actual museum. That will have to wait for another day. Stuart Mc then took us on another of his sat nav aided routes which surprisingly lead us to a pub, the Bat and Ball in Breamore, for some light refreshments. Alcohol free for those in charge of the bikes obviously. Not however before we took advantage of the perfect weather and had a very large ice cream by the seaside at Barton on Sea, looking at the Isle of Wight and The Needles. Julian Grubb ensured we got back to the hotel safely from the Bat and Ball.
Monday morning we left for home and had a great trip up some interesting roads to the Cotswolds where we stopped at Broadway Tower for tea and cake. We had a good weekend with interesting roads, scenery and company in an area that we didn’t know. We will return for another look in the future.
