7 Region takes home the Millennium Shield Una Blundell 7 Region Secretary At the recent NCM in Pitlochry

Cheshire Branch Trio Spike Elliott , Vice Chair, Cheshire Branch Spike Elliott presented Bill Tee of Cheshire Branch with his membership certificate for 40 years! (He has been a member for 46 but had never been presented his 40 year one!) At the Armed Forces Day and Sandbach Fun Day , Spike Elliott took the opportunity to promote the IPA. He had some difficulty getting the IPA flag to hang, resulting in its sideways position.

Scotland, 7 Region was awarded the prestigious ‘Millennium Shield’ and our Chairman Colin Gameson proudly accepted the award on our behalf. In order to receive this award the NEC have outlined the criteria as follows: ‘The Millennium Shield is awarded to an individual, group or region who, in the opinion of the National Executive Committee, have excelled in performance or contribution to the IPA as an organisation. It is only awarded when the NEC deems that such activity has taken place, not necessarily every year.’ All members within all of our branches can be very proud of this achievement. Regardless of whether work is visible or behind the scenes, this award is for you. Well done to everyone.

Sussex Branch visit to Herstmonceux Castle Herstmonceux castle dates from 1441 and was built with Dutch bricks by Dutch bricklayers. It was once home to the Royal Observatory and is now a campus of Queens University, Kingston in Canada. Roxy Stewart is employed by the University and she and her husband Peter live on site. Peter is an IPA member in Canada and he invited our branch to visit the castle just before the new term started. Twenty three members attended from 11 Region and had a very enjoyable day, which was subsidised by the branch. The group were enthralled by an hour’s talk and demonstration in the Courtyard by the local East Sussex Falconry Falconer. The terms “under the thumb” and “wound around her little finger” are all Falconry terms! A very nice lunch was served in the “Headless Drummer” bar. The Headless Drummer is one of the castle’s many ghosts dating back to the times of the smuggling history of the area. Afterwards we enjoyed a very comprehensive guided tour of the castle by Bryan, one of the volunteer guides.

Helen & I travelled to London to meet Masayo Kasagi from Kyoto IPA and Jackie Miles from Hertfordshire Branch. We first met Masayo in Japan during 2017, when she escorted us during our visit. We gave Masayo a guided tour of London and the highlight of the day was a visit to No 10!

‘Kreslu’ Michael Chappell 7 Region

On Saturday 23rd June a very successful charity ball was held at the China Fleet Club near Saltash in Cornwall in favour of the Cornish police charity, ‘Kreslu’. (‘Kreslu’ is Cornish for Police or Peace Officer) The charity provides support to police officers, staff and volunteers injured at work and focuses on police based in Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly, or others who are injured in Cornwall, helping local officers police the Duchy. Photographed at the event are our Cornwall IPA Branch and IPA 7 Region Chair, Colin Gameson and our 7 Region Secretary, Una Blundell with Superintendent Ian Drummond- Smith and Cornwall IPA member Kevin Silver, all looking very elegant indeed.
