Honouring PC William Henderson Chris Burnett , North East Branch Earlier this year North East Branch members attended the unveiling of a memorial plaque in honour of PC William Henderson.

Creating an IPA Village George Palmer Three years ago Vivienne and I came across a beautiful village in the German Black Forest. It was love at first sight and we now live here. The village is called Enzklosterle and it sits in a valley 590 meters’ above sea level. The River Enz, crystal clear and laden with trout runs through the centre of the village. The Mayor, Sascha Dengler is more than just a mayor, he is a long-standing IPA member. Our village offers first-class camping and self-catering accommodation. There are hundreds of cycling and hiking trails. We

have a large crazy golf course, a deer park, Forest Climbing Garden and an impressive wood carving museum. Within a half-hour drive are thermal baths, a giant summer Toboggan Run, nature reserves and panoramic views over Alsace, France. Ryanair flies from Stanstead to Baden Airpark and car hire is available at the airport. Sascha, Vivienne and I shall be delighted to extend the hand of friendship and open our village to IPA members. I served for 33 years with the Police and have been an IPA member for 37 years.

The 37 year old officer died performing his duties on 14th April 1893, when he was shot by a man he was trying to arrest. PC Henderson left behind his wife Margaret and eight children. Members of PC Henderson’s family attended the unveiling, supported by Cleveland Police Cadets & Police Officers, the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Police Memorial Trust. The plaque is on the site of the old Binks Street Police Station on Linthorpe Road in Middlesbrough, so why not visit it sometime to honour PC Henderson, who sadly died whilst executing his duty. Another reason why you should join the IPA! Steve Bretherton , Secretary-General Inspector Lombardo welcomed Student Officer Kiessling from the state of HESSEN Police force in Germany to Cambridgeshire Constabulary. Officer Kiessling completed a three week exchange programme visit in Fenland and Peterborough. This programme has been organised by the IPA, to give officers the chance to learn about different policing methods and cultures, and to share ideas, experiences and knowledge.

Extra Sparkle in London Harvey Whittam , Thames Valley Branch Secretary During their UK visit in August, I met Niccolo R. Coia from San Francisco and his fiancé Gianna Rose at Windsor Castle. Together with some helpers, we toured the Castle, including St George’s chapel, followed by a guided walk around Windsor. On our recommendation, Niccolo and Gianna went for an early evening cruise on the river Thames, followed by a quick drink and food in an Eton pub.

Then they whizzed off for a quick pit stop at Runneymede, to see the area of the signing of the Magna Carta. There was also a surprise for them at Runneymede, in the form of a small part of the USA. A one acre plot was given by Britain to the USA in memory of JFK.

Niccolo and Gianna had previously had an excellent visit to the Tower of London, thanks to Dipesh. While in London, Niccolo had ‘popped’ the question to Gianna. After leaving us in Thames Valley, they headed on to meet David Norman and friends in York for a Police drive-along tour before catching their train to Paris.
