In It to Win It Clive Wood , President Section UK I am sure many of you will remember me promoting the benefits of joining the IPA Section UK lottery. I have been a member from the start and have even won a couple of times.

T he lottery is overseen by our National Treasurer Bill Lloyd. Bill is assisted by our helpful staff at Fox Road, who manage the monthly draw and send out notifications. Tickets cost just £1, and of course the more you buy the greater your chance of winning. The Lottery is run to provide a member benefit, and not to generate a profit. The money raised goes towards personal development grants, which are available every other year to paying members. An earlier grant allowed me to learn Spanish at night school. That had limited benefit during lockdown, but I hope a cruise may come along soon, and that the World Congress will go ahead next year in Barcelona. Last year I received an award towards some clay pigeon shooting coaching. Because of Covid I had to wait until the grounds reopened, which I’m pleased to say they now have. I have now enjoyed several lessons to improve my technique. Many of you will have seen my previous articles about Region 10’s annual clay shoot, and will know that improvement was required. I was able to take a lesson with former World Champion Ed Solomon, who is a really nice guy and of course very knowledgeable. I was then able to take a small course of lessons with clay pigeon shooting instructor and coach Steve Spires, here in Leicestershire at my local Kibworth Shooting Ground. Steve has a lovely, relaxed style and identified several areas where my technique could be improved. Steve has kindly offered discounted rates for IPA members, which is great. He can be contacted through the ground on 0116 2796001. The lessons allowed me to represent Leicestershire at the National Clay Shooting finals, which was a great privilege. If clay shooting is not your thing, then any other personal development opportunity could well be open to a lottery grant, so: 1 Join the lottery. 2 Think about the development grant opportunities when they are advertised by our National Treasurer. 3 If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or Bill Lloyd. To those of you who are already members, best of luck with the coming draws.
