Devon Branch Sunday Lunch Una Blundell , Devon Branch Secretary

Thank you to our Branch Chairman Keith Howard, for arranging a most enjoyable Sunday lunch at Dainton Park Golf club, Newton Abbott. It was so good to catch up with friends, some of whom we hadn’t seen for some time. The weather was dry and sunny, with breathtaking views across the Devon countryside. Keith brought along the latest recruitment posters, to hand out for display in Police stations. He also told us about the new draw, where new joiners have the opportunity to win a three night stay in an IPA house of their choice. (There are over 40 houses and apartments to choose from, in 14 countries.) Our next event will be a trip to the races, in either Exeter or Newton Abbott.

On the Morse Beat Bill Butcher , Chairman Thames Valley Branch Thomas Klaassen and Lois van Kleef are IPA members from The Netherlands. They came to Oxford for a couple of days and sought some help from Thames Valley branch. The morning after their arrival Bill and his wife Val, met them for breakfast in the city. After breakfast, Bill took them on a tourist walk, although by his own admission he is no expert. After all the obvious sites, Bill took them to Oxford’s City Police Station, made famous by TV’s Inspector Morse. When Bill told them they were now in the shadow of Inspector Morse, they replied “Who?” After our walk, we went to the operation hub of Oxford, at Cowley police station, where they were invited to join the late shift. After the briefing Bill left them to it. The following day, Bill and Val took them to the National Memorial Arboretum. We went straight to The Beat, where they saw the symbolic Blue Lamp. We then walked along the avenue of trees to the Thames Valley memorial, where they placed an IPA cross of remembrance. The two then took a tour on the road train and then visited the National Police memorial. They were completely overcome, not just by the Police memorials but the site in general.
