Former Branch Chairman Receives Honour Award Brian Deacon , BTP Branch Brian recently spent a week’s vacation on the Greek Island of Corfu, with members of his family. He visited the Island’s Police HQ in Corfu Town, on behalf of his IPA Branch, with the intention of presenting gifts to members of the Hellenic Section. Brian got a surprise when he was introduced to the Island’s Chief of Police Spiridon Skolarikis. Brian presented a framed IPA branch plaque to the chief officer, as a token of friendship between both police forces. It was then that Brian was presented with a special honour award from the chief of police, who remarked that he was very pleased that Brian had made the effort to visit on behalf of his former police force and his IPA branch. Brian was humbled to receive such an award from the Greek police, and proud to have represented the British section of the association on that occasion.
Tony Berrington , Branch Chair At the Notts Branch quarterly meeting in June, Tony Berrington, Notts Branch Chair, had the great, and perhaps unusual pleasure of presenting a 40 year Membership certificate to his wife Annie. Annie Berrington joined IPA in 1983 and has always been an active member; she was Supplies Officer for the Branch for more than 20 years and has, for the last six years been the Social Secretary, organising events on behalf of the members. It was only through her encouragement that Tony became a member and for 12 years, Branch Treasurer; he has now been Chair for six years with her support. “Behind every successful man…” Annie adds this certificate to a Signal Service Award, made in 2011 and of course, the Presidential Award this year. She is a very active person as she is also on the Social Committee for the Notts Branch of NARPO. For our August Branch Meeting, Notts Branch held a BBQ at Fox Road . This was a free event for members and their families and it is held as a ‘thankyou’ to the members, and to encourage more members to attend and participate in Branch events. We had over 30 members and guests attend. The weather forecast was not wonderful, but we braved it, and other than a brief shower it stayed fine and the sun peeped out too. We were obliged to warm up with some ‘medicinal’ shots, as can be seen in the photo. Among those attending was John Shand, a stalwart both of the Branch and of the Caravan Section. John is a keen BBQer and put his skills to good use as a volunteer chef for the event. It was also a great opportunity for the Branch Chair, Tony Berrington to present John with his 30 year Membership Certificate.
