Spotlight on the SIGS

An Introduction to The Caravan and Camping SIG Kevin Hullah , C&C SIG Secretary

The Caravan and Camping Special Interest Group planned this year to enjoy nine Rallies. The venues were spread all over the country. Our opening event was at Elm Cottage Touring Park, near Winsford in Cheshire. It was a quiet start to the season because only four units attended. We did however, enjoy an end of rally dinner at the local pub, where we were joined by our new Secretary General, Spike Elliott and his wife, Helen. F rom Cheshire, our next event was about a week later , at Wyre Piddle, in Worcestershire. We were on the banks of the River Avon, with good views of passing leisure craft. attendance with 13 units. A fortnight later, 12 members of the Group met up at Leiston, in Suffolk. Many took the opportunity to explore the local area during the day and enjoy the on-site activities in the evenings. This was followed by the biennial Norfolk Broads Rally. An invitation Rally was to be held to coincide with the Steam Fair at Cromford in Derbyshire. Some members managed to get there but sadly, this event was cancelled because the weather turned the site into a quagmire. Your Police World Editor can attest to this, as his Scout Group helped manage the chaos the weather caused. Fairer weather ensued, so we were able to hold our rally at nearby Carsington Water in the Peak District.

Our Rallies embrace a variety of activities, ranging from boat trips, theatre and museum visits, barbecues and field games to pub lunches and curry nights. Our evenings on site are taken up with a variety of fun and games, provided by our in-house entertainment crew. Next year’s programme is shaping up to be very active. There must be other IPA members reading this who are caravanners, campers or motorhomers. Many of our members once said they, “don’t do rallies!”.

But they tried it, and have become converts. Why not give it a go? Contact me for details.
