National Clay Shooting Competition By Steve Bretherton , Secretary, 8 Region Photos: Alexandra Pap Cambridge Gun Club, 20 minutes north of the city, was the venue for this year’s National Clay Shooting competition held on Saturday 13th September.

T his was the second time that the event had been held at this venue but the conditions couldn’t have been more different to last time. Back in October 2023 the weather was awful the day after Storm Babet struck. This year we couldn’t have asked for better weather. The event attracted members from a range of forces, including the RAF Police and from branches as far afield as Essex, Thames Valley and Warwickshire & Coventry. While several people had shot before, most were complete novices, including the 10-year-old daughter of one member. Our coaches for the day were once again our very

own IEB member, Clive Wood – a keen clay shooter, along with Jules Arnold and his son, Sam. Jules is the gun shop manager for Giles Marriott guns and Sam is a gunsmith.
