Professional Development

An Officer’s Perspective: Las Vegas Shooting 1st October 2017 Neil Hallam , Editor

I need very little excuse to visit the beautiful county of North Yorkshire, so the chance to take up a Professional Development opportunity at the Force’s HQ in Northallerton was a very easy decision. D elegates from as far afield as Switzerland and Dubai joined the huge group of UK Officers and Staff to hear from Detective Ken Mead. Ken was one of the lead investigators of America’s biggest mass shooting incident, where 58 people were murdered at a Country Music Festival. his IPA Branch at a football competition in America. Their friendship stood the test of time, with at least one visit across the Atlantic each year, and the friends becoming honorary uncle to each other’s kids. As well as rising through the Police ranks, David has become the Chair of both his IPA Branch and Region. Ken went on to become a highly respected Detective, working as part of a joint Police & FBI Counter Terrorism Task Force. The event itself is a fantastic example of IPA networking. North Yorkshire Inspector David Hunter first met Ken 10 years ago, when he represented

David Hunter, Ken Mead and Ciaron Irvine at the North Yorkshire Police and Fire memorial
