Open All Hours? Nineteen members of Derbyshire branch enjoyed a guided tour of Richard Arkwrights Mill, in Cromford, Derbyshire. Cromford Mill, the world’s first successful water powered cotton spinning mill, was built in 1771 by Sir Richard Arkwright. Cromford Mills is one of the main sites of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. It was a most enlightening and interesting guided tour. It was followed by a cream tea in the Gothic Warehouse where our Chair, Bill Storey, presented John Davenport with his 20 year Loyalty Certificate. It was quite significant because John had also organised the trip. Sean Murphy , Derbyshire branch Secretary

London Needs You! Bob McCormack, London Reception Officer, and Tom Reilly, Chair Middlesex Branch, has made an appeal for volunteers to assist with visitors to London. Can you give a little spare time to act as tour guide for a day showing visitors the sights of London? Tom said, “ We need more people who are prepared to volunteer and occasionally host visitors to London.” He adds, “For years we have had individuals who have helped to deal with the numerous visitors to our Capital City - and I really thank them. They developed many personal contacts, which opened doors, and we depended on them. In a an effort to address the current shortage of volunteers, Bob and Tom would like to propose that a London Reception Team is formed by volunteers from in and around London that would assist visitors. Bob McCormack adds, “Sometimes visitors make requests to be met at the airport. This in many cases has a cost implication regarding parking fees and petrol costs if members are using their own transport. The ideal situation would be to have an IPA representative at all airports - to meet and greet and advise visitors on how to travel to their accommodation. So in addition it would be beneficial to hear from volunteers who currently work at the London airports.” If you are able to assist or would like to volunteer please contact: Bob at londonreceptionofficer@ipa-uk.org or Tom at ipa@london.com / 02086210069 A different kind of Triathlon Section UK had a strong presence at the recent Emergency Services Triathlon Event held at Holme Pierrepoint, Nottingham.
