IPA Monaco Celebrates and Pays Tribute On 13 October, 2012, IPA Section Monaco hosted one hundred and seventy people during the evening of the Section's 5th Annual Grand Gala. This spectacular event took place at the Hotel Hermitage in Monte Carlo. Vice President Mick Luke and his wife, Sara, attended as representatives of Section UK. The evening had a special connotation because it was dedicated to Alicia Champion and Audrey Bertaut, of the Territorial Gendarmerie Brigade at Pierrefeu-du-Var, who were killed in the line of duty - June, 2012. A minute of silence was observed for colleagues, killed in the line of duty. Also cited were: Marcel Amaury, killed in the line of duty on 23 September in Cannes, France, and his seriously injured colleague. Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes who fell into an ambush in Manchester, September, 2012 were also remembered.

One of the many rooms in the hall - packed with fascinating artefacts

Branch Chair Alan Everall said, “On arrival, the owners of the Hall, Paul and Victoria Humpherston, invited us to join them on a wonderful journey of discovery. As we stepped through the door it was as if we had arrived at the old curiosity shop. Every nook and cranny was adorned with paintings, collectables, clocks, antiques and ornaments of bygone days' - mostly acquired by the present owners who had transformed the place so tastefully.” Paul and Victoria Humpherston bought the Hall in late 1997 and spent nine years restoring it. They have also restored 12 acres of Victorian gardens in a beautiful setting above the ruins of the 12th Century Abbey of the Long Valley. The Hall has also appeared in many television documentaries on historic houses. The group was led along a maze of corridors and discovered that every room had been decorated in a different Christmas theme. Alan added, “As we progressed through numerous lounges, bedrooms and bathrooms, it was incredible how anyone could think up and devise so many variations in decor.” He explained that there were trees in nearly every room - all decorated differently. The rooms and styles were endless over three floors. In the domestic area there was a pantry stocked with seemingly every tin, packet and bottle ever produced. The Hall remained in this state during the Christmas period - then all was packed away and preparations made for the next event - Easter. To find out more visit: http://abbeycwmhir.com
