National Police Memorial Day 2021 at Lincoln Cathedral

Our men and women on the frontline put themselves at harm’s way daily to protect and serve others. Being a Police Officer is more than just a job, it is a path that many could not walk and we should feel proud every single day. Normal people, doing extraordinary things, some who have sadly given their lives in the line of duty. Our fallen colleagues will always remain part of the Police family, we will always remember them.”

Visiting Gibraltar John Gisbey and his wife Isabel followed Dave King’s example in a recent Police World article, by visiting Gibraltar. They were not disappointed, enjoying a superb lunch at the IPA Police Club in Gibraltar, where President Craig Philbin was an outstanding host. John says the hospitality was second to none, with good food and excellent beer. that the physical event was held at Lincoln Cathedral, which is one of England’s oldest Cathedrals and a magnificent back drop for such an important day. To help those for whom travel is still difficult, the service was also streamed live, over the internet. The Chief Constable of Lincolnshire, Mr Chris Haward said “It is an honour for Lincolnshire to host the 2021 National Police Memorial Day. Chris Morgan , Lincolnshire Branch Secretary The National Police Memorial Day is held at a different location each year, on the nearest Sunday to St Michael’s Day, the Patron Saint of Police. The event gives formal recognition to Police officers who have given their lives to protect others and make their communities a safer place. Like so many other events, Covid caused the 2020 event to be held virtually. The year 2020 was special for the IPA, as our 70th anniversary. We had planned for the 2020 event to be held in Arthur Troop’s home county of Lincolnshire. But sadly, we were not able to host such a fitting tribute to our founder. However, on Sunday 26th September 2021, things had changed enough to allow a hybrid event, with some on-line and some physical attendance. Lincolnshire Branch were delighted
