Spotlight on the SIGs
Emmerdale, Fish & Chips and a missing jacket Paul Firth , Motorcycle SIG Chairman. October is not traditionally seen as a month for motorcycle tours, but 25 of our intrepid members met at Pickering for an end of season exploration, to see what God’s own county has to offer. W e usually make our own way to the venue , so the group first came together on Friday evening at Figaro’s of Pickering, a lovely family run Italian bistro. Day two was another mix of rides led by John and local members, with some of us re visiting childhood haunts. High traffic volume and some road closures, took the edge off day two, but we still had a great day with the weather holding out.
Saturday morning commenced with SIG vice Chair John, outlining an option of two routes that he had planned for us. The first group went off to find the Aidensfield Arms (TV’s Emmerdale) and onward to the delights of the moors. The second went via Helmsley and Stokesley. A few also chose to do their own thing, meeting everyone for a fish and chips lunch in Whitby. We were met in the Quayside chippie by Chris Charlton and other Scarborough Branch members, who had arranged our lunch and presented us with a lovely memento of our visit. Both groups set off after lunch in different directions, to further explore the area. One group headed to Scarborough, where one member (me) realised he had left a jacket in the chippie. Many thanks to Stuart for accompanying me back to Whitby. We spent another great evening in Pickering. As we hadn’t pre booked and Pickering gets busy, we had to split up in different venues. My group enjoyed an exceptional curry in Namaste .
Our final night saw us all eating in the Premier Inn and discussing next year’s options. Our AGM in Northern Ireland in particular, is one we are all looking forward to and a trip to Ypres and Bastogne in September. We even discussed hosting another international Rally, amazing what a couple of beers can do. Our next event will be the post-Christmas bash, which in 2022 will be a weekend city break in Cambridge.
