In Hope and Friendship A poem by Will Henry Petherick Hello, my friend, it is I, an unknown, I write to let you know that you are not alone. I share with you the anguish the total disbelief, That War now ravishes your Country, oh what grief. No man has the right to play the role of God, Has the right to dictate his will that is absurd. I write to you in `friendship` what a simple word, But it means so much to me I send it with all my Love. I often relate to music at time it eases pain, A melody a poignant verse my confidence to gain. Like so many others there are lyrics that mean to touch, So, from Frankie Goes to Hollywood these few, mean so much. `WAR! What is it good for? Absolutely Nothing. Stay safe my friends in the knowledge that you are not alone, Around the World there is a clammer a rising of fortitude. We send our prayers, our thoughts and hope, from a Friend in IPA’s Writers Special Interest Group. Unspoken A poem by Ann Cumberland , Northern Ireland Branch & Writers SIG I wanted to say ‘I love you,’ never saying the words out loud, I have showed you in many other ways and of you, I will always be proud. I wanted to say ‘I am sorry’ that you had to die alone, on a chilly autumn evening so far away from home. I wanted to say ‘I’ll see you,’ catch a glimpse and see your smile, tell you of the memories you have missed hoping you could stay for a little while. I wanted to say ‘I miss you,’ life will never be the same. Your loving light continues shining, lighting the darkness like a flame.
Four Advent Candles A poem by D Osborne Hughes (Doz) , Leicestershire Branch & Writers SIG Four advent candles burning, To remind us of his life, But what lessons are we learning Avoiding all the strife.
Stand up sit down and turn around We are ordered every which way. Stay in, go out, don’t make a sound,
Constrained in every way. Look at the advent candle And see how it freely burns. The door without a handle A lesson for all to learn. Dying for our freedom A price dearly paid We fight against the demon
And the constraints he has made. So take your freedom in your hand And hold it in your heart. We should have stood and made our stand, Right from the very start. I do not live recklessly Nor step outside my way.
Or say to all fecklessly You must do what I say. I will not step into your yard And order you to stay. For sheep find it hard, To step outside their way.
