Turkish Delight
Fatih Vursavas , Thames Valley Branch Our Turkish members invited their IPA Thames Valley Branch friends for a “Turkish Delight Lunch” at the Harpsden Village Hall, near Henley-on-Thames. About 100 people attended the lunch and enjoyed the variety of Turkish food, Turkish Music and the Marbling art show. Our IPA colleagues and their family members prepared wonderful and delicious Turkish foods, and members enjoyed them together in a warm atmosphere. One IPA Member’s daughter Busra gave us a joyful concert with piano and her guitar. She also sang Turkish and English songs. A Turkish IPA Member Sevgin, who runs a photo booth business, brought a bespoke wooden handcrafted photobooth, and our members took photos, making wonderful memories. Recognition by the Carabinieri Roger A Falkingham HLM , Secretary, West Yorkshire Regional Branch At the 2018 NCM in Pitlochry, Scotland, the out-going President, Mick Luke, awarded Honorary Life Membership to the Secretary of West Yorkshire Branch, Roger Falkingham. The certificate and pin were presented in August 2018, by Vice Chairman of 3 Region, Karel Simpson, while Roger was home hosting the President of USA’s Region 61, Mark Golliher, his wife Bonnie (Also an IPA member) and Bonnie’s sister. Barone Don Giuseppe Compagnino is a member of IPA West Yorkshire Branch. He is also President of The Leeds branch of the Association National Carabinieri (ANC). The ANC are over 140 years old and look after retired members of the Carabinieri, and many are also members of the IPA. Hearing about the award of Honorary Life Membership, Mr Compagnino was given approval to award Roger a grade A Diploma by the ANC for services to the International Police Association around the World. It is understood that Roger is the first non-Italian citizen to be awarded this Diploma by the Association National Carabinieri. Mr Compagnino hoped to award Remembering Dusty Jim Wilson , Photos Malcolm Parker, Cumbria Branch Cumbria Branch recently planted a tree at Police Headquarters Penrith, to commemorate Bill (Dusty) Miller. In attendance was our Patron Chief Constable Michelle Skeer QPM. Bill’s widow was ill on the day, so his son Glen planted the tree.
a daughter of a Turkish IPA member, joined us during lunch and explained what the art of Marbling is, and how paper marbling involves floating inks or dyes on a liquid surface in a tray, and how the inks are manipulated into patterns using tools. Then a sheet of paper was turned into a wonderful piece of art. Marbling art products were given as gifts to the event participants. It was a lovely gathering with all participants having a wonderful time together as an IPA family.
Grizzly Crimes Revisited Tony Ansell , Cambridgeshire Branch
A group of IPA members met at New Scotland Yard on London’s embankment in November 2022, to enjoy a morning of history and intrigue at the world renowned Metropolitan Police Crime Museum. The visit was hosted by Alex Williams, Secretary of the London North Branch, who had invited serving and retired members to the event. Several members attended from London-North, Surrey and Cambridgeshire Branches, and there was also a very welcome guest from the United States - Robert Clifton, a Criminal Investigator from the Panama City Beach Police Department, in Florida. The Museum Curator Katie gave us a fascinating insight into the many macabre exhibits, which were associated with murders and other crimes committed over three centuries. After the visit, refreshments were taken at the nearby Civil Service Club, which gave members the opportunity to share their museum
Roger’s Diploma at an ANC ceremony, but the pandemic prevented this. So, Section UK President Clive Wood, presented the Diploma on behalf of the Association National Carabinieri, at a North East England IPA event in South Shields. Clive also presented Roger with a 40 years of service certificate. IPA members interested in the ANC should contact the West Yorkshire Secretary who will forward their
experience over snacks and drinks.
