Helping out: it’s what we do Malcolm Dove , Secretary, Blackpool & North Lancashire Branch Blackpool & North Lancashire Branch received a request to offer support to Franz Schmalzl, of Regenburg IPA, whose daughter was attending a course at The University of Cumbria, which is based in Lancaster. Franz wanted to stay locally for a short period to help his Daughter settle in and adjust to the area. David Winnard, our Branch Vice Chairman, along with his daughter Jan, arranged to meet with Franz and his daughter Kati in Lancaster. Prior to us meeting, Franz had cycled up Hard Knott Pass whilst Kati went on a hike around one of the lakes. So they had certainly earned their supper. The occasion was made more difficult due to the situation with Covid 19, however, all our arrangements proved successful in the end.

Family History Group Denis Hunt , Group Chair The IPA’s range of social and educational opportunities have expanded with the formation of our Family History Group, for any members interested in Family History Research. The group held their inaugural meeting in July, via Zoom. With over 100 members joining the informal Group during the first week, we now hope to become an official Special Interest Group (SIG). The members’ experience ranges from those who are already deeply involved and experienced in the subject, through to those in the very early stages of researching their family history, and are seeking guidance, or to broaden their knowledge and skills.
