They bothdelivered seminar workshops, on the subject of NottinghamshirePolice’s approach to gangs, to IPA representatives from countries suchasRussia, Cyprus, Sweden, Brazil, Germany, Northern Irelandand theRepublic of Ireland. SectionUKPresident andViceChair of the Nottinghamshirebranch,Mick Luke, chaired the conference inGimborn givingexamples of Nottinghamshire’s approachas learning material. Mick said, “ I spokeabout UrbanStreet Gangs andhowwemanage them inNottingham. USGs arenot a knownphenomena inEurope but our approach is something that the seminarmembers found very interesting. many other police colleagues. I alsohad theopportunity topresent Gunter witha Leicestershirepolicehelmet as a gift frommy branch. TheKolnCarnival is a carnival that takes placeevery year inKoln, Germany. Traditionally the carnival isdeclaredopenat 11minutes past 11on the11February. TheStreet carnival, also called ‘the crazy days’, takes placebetween theFat Thursday (Weiberfastnacht) andends onAshWednesday (Aschermittwoch). Thehighlight of the carnival isRoseMonday (Rosenmontag), twodaysbeforeAshWednesday. All through these days, the localsmasquerade. This iswell wortha trip so check your diaries for 2015 (Thursday12 February untilWednesday18February2015). Whilst touringEuropewithhis son, Toru took theopportunity to visit the IPA’s AdminCentrebased in West Bridgford, Nottingham. Hewas greetedby LesleyHughes, Office Administrator, whohadpreviouslymet Toruat internationalmeetings.
